Operational use of Cospas-Sarsat by SAR agencies started with the crash of a light aircraft in Canada, in which three people were rescued (September 10, 1982).  Since then, the System has been used for thousands of SAR events and has been instrumental in the rescue of over 26,000 lives worldwide.

To read about rescue stories assisted by Cospas-Sarsat, you can view the "What's New" box on the right of the screen.

To read submitted rescue stories by Cospas-Sarsat Participants for the preceeding year, go to Documents / C/S System Documents / R.000 Series and click on "Annex C Only" of document R.007.
